Overton Beach

History Located just outside Las Vegas is Overton Beach.  The meaning of Las Vegas is meadows. This name was offered by the old Spanish travelers in the 1800s. Thirty Mormon missionaries were sent to the Valley of Las Vegas by Brigham Young during the year 1855. The fort built by them was the root cause of the settlement of whites in the region.
